    hello,
i'm quite new here and i would liek to know l2off server requirements for gameserver up to 1000 online players. The main question would be what MB to use, dual cpu's? which kind of cpu's? intel dual core, quad core? how much ram i would need and what speed and etc.
would be very grateful for the help, because i want to buy server hardware and i don't know from which side to start.
    thank you! :)

Well .. this is what i had as a server machine. It can sustain up to 1500 in my opinion.

    Intel i7-920, 4x 2.67 GHz CPU
    12.288 MB Ram, DDRIII Ram
    2x 1.500 GB SATAII HDD
100 MBit, 2.000 GB Traffic Connection
Windows Server 2003, Enterprice Ed. 64bit

i would say that 1000 players for a start is kind of a dream this days :p
most of servers arround dont have that.
if you have a computer with 8gb ram, and a rapitor 10krpm hdd you will have a good server already.
just pick one that you upgrade later and you will be good

Its not about "depmax64", its about "L2Server (NCSOFT Software)".

It is 'not' optimized for I7 core and works unstable there.

If you turn off HyperThreading, then the server works stable

In certain motherboards this BIOS option do not works really well, so it will depend if you have enough luck to get a compatible hardware :).

Ok, then i have last question. Is it able to use loginserver + gameserver+ website at one machine ? As i seen, many servers have 2 other machines, one for database and another for login server, why ?

    Thanks.

usualy is better to run the webserver at another machine, but if you have a small server you shouldn't have any problems, as long as you do the security properly.
as for the sql server, you only need to run it on another machine if you starting having problems at the performance. usualy you won't need that if you have a good machine with ssd.

Running any kind of application server, together L2OFF Server in my small opinion, is a big security error and a big mistake also.

You cannot guarantee wheter those 'extra' / 'additional' applications, are exploitable or not.

L2OFF has been designed to be 'scaled' through different resources, as you can see it is splitted in several server applications in order to maximize the performance.

A simple scenario would be :

    1) One or more Servers for the Database Only, Standalone or Clusterized Scheme.
    2) One or more Servers for the Billing System (Altough Private Servers doesn't have a Clue on Whats the usage of this).
    3) One server for CacheD.
    4) One server for LogD.
    5) One server for Community Server.
    6) One server for L2Server+L2NPC
    7) One or more Servers for the Web User Frontend, Registration, Stats and so on.

So by those definitions, you can understand a little of 'how' an big company like ncsoft plans this to be used, and this is really, really a very basic scenario about all this, they for sure do have alot more.

Hey ppl I wanted to ask how many players would this server hold without lags? There would be only l2off running no webservers and other shit.

    Processor : Intel® Xeon® X3450, 4x2x2.66 GHz
    RAM : 8GB ECC DDRIII
    HDD: RAID1 2x SATA2 1.5TB 7200RPM
    Raid : Integrated SATA2 RAID levels 0/1/5/10
    Rack : Hotswap
    Server platform : Intel components
    Internet : 100Mbps/1Gbps port

    Also :

    Processor : Intel® Xeon E3-1240, 4x2x3.3 GHz
    RAM : 8GB ECC DDRIII
    HDD: RAID1 2x 2TB 7200RPM
    Raid : Integrated SATA3 RAID levels 0/1/5/10
    Rack : Hotswap
Server platform: Sandy bridge cpu + all other Intel components
    Internet : 100Mbps/1Gbps port

    And this one :

    Intel procesorius: Intel® Xeon E3-1240V2, 4x2x3.4 GHz
    RAM : 16GB ECC DDRIII
    HDD: RAID1 2x 2TB 7200RPM
    Raid : Integrated SATA3 RAID levels 0/1/5/10
    Rack: Hotswap
Server platform: Ivy bridge cpu + all other Intel components
    Internet: 100Mbps/1Gbps port

    Which would be better?

8Gb bad. More than 12Gb good. 16Gb+ better.
Faster hard drives needed. 7200rpm suck hard.

Depends on the setup. Worst case 500, best case 2000.
